Marcos Marble
I was born in Athens in 1972 and come from Tinos, an island with a long tradition in marble carving and marble craft. From a young age I worked with marble. My first years were spent apprenticing beside my father, Iosif Armao, an experienced and established marble sculptor, and at the workshop of M. Vasilakis & A. Valakas, where I trained in drawing and marble carving. I later continued working in marble workshops in Athens and gained broad experience in both ecclesiastical and secular projects.
From 2003 to 2015 I had the opportunity to work as a marble technician in the Acropolis Monuments Restoration Program, where I specialized in the restoration of classical monuments. In particular, I worked on the restoration of the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike, carrying out joinery, carving of Ionic and Doric flutings, pointing work, and installation of architectural members.
Today I continue to work in marble carving and monument restoration. I collaborate with marble workshops and create marble decorative as well as functional objects. My themes are inspired by folk tradition and contemporary art.
